Seattle Fashion Industry Unites for Built in Seattle™ Project

Built for Man, Seattle Fashion, Built in Seattle

Local Garment Trade Joins Forces for Built in Seattle™ Project

Through collaboration the vision of a Garment District in Seattle is real.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Seattle, WA MARCH 11- Built for Man Founder and Creative Director Francisco Hernandez has made a conscious decision to keep his seven year old label headquartered in Seattle. For the signature piece of their Fall / Winter 2014 collection the seven year old label wanted to have the piece Built in Seattle™. That’s when Mr. Hernandez reached out to friend, and industry advocate Steven Paul Matsumoto, founder of Stigmare Couture Marketing.

“I have been invited to LA and to Vancouver to showcase my collection there but I choose to showcase right here at home,” says Francisco Hernandez. “This is very hard work, but I do this because I believe in Seattle and I believe we can make it here just as we could in LA and NYC.”

Mr. Matsumoto has been on a mission to establish a Garment District in the region for over three years by focusing on cultivating the supply chain, and manufacturing resources needed to keep labels like Built for Man in the region. With Mr. Matsumoto’s help Built for Man was connected to Columbia City apparel manufacture Tasty Tiger. Tasty Tiger, a woman owned business, opened up their production facility to Built for Man’s product development team during their off hours giving them access to specialty equipment they would have otherwise had to spend thousands of dollars to purchase themselves.

The goal of the Built in Seattle™ project is to showcase that Seattle has the resources and talent to be a global player in the apparel industry in more than just the outerwear and technical apparel categories. Seattle also has a place as a leader in domestic manufacturing and design while creating living wage jobs in the process.
